MEDIUM-SIZED ORGANIZATIONS

We could define a medium-sized business in terms of number of employees or sales. But we prefer to define them according to their maturity of operations and position in the marketplace.

Our typical medium-sized client is a business, non-profit or governmental organization that has been in existence for more than five years and has experienced consistent growth. As such, internal processes have grown organically or as needs arose to solve immediate or near-term issues.

This is particularly true in the areas of marketing, communications and integration of emerging technologies, including Intranets, email, video and teleconferencing and Wi-Fi.

Most of these organizations have at least one staff member charged with managing internal and external communications. These departments are usually mired in the day-to-day communication needs of the organization and either don't have the resources or mandate to counsel management on the more global issues relating to effective communication.

We work with these businesses to streamline their operations, assess existing practices, remove unneeded or ineffective layers of communication channels, realign message networks, identify key communicators and informal communication circles and provide management with solutions for closing gaps in processes that will increase productivity, improve processes and reduce operating costs.

Following are some of the consulting and communication services we offer medium sized businesses:

  • It's All Downhill From Here - Typically this is the starting point for most organizations. It's a lot like going to the doctor for a physical. The communication audit assesses the general health of the organization's communications. It examines the level and nature of current historical internal and external communications, identifies gaps in the process and provides recommendations for closing those gaps, removing roadblocks, strengthening channels and creating new methods for communicating clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization. Surprisingly, very little communication is top down. And audit can identify those unseen paths of information exchange that can bring an organization to its knees.

  • Looking Brand New - We work with these organizations to ensure that their brand is aligned throughout the organization, from the most routine phone call to the most complex sales relationship. This includes clarifying vision and mission, engaging management and staff in the company's culture, removing roadblocks that may compromise the brand and realigning operations to match the organization's long term strategies and tactics.

  • Master a Disaster - Even the most trusted and stalwart of organizations can be rocked by a crisis, whether it is a natural disaster or man made. We work with organizations to identify potential crises and assess their impact on operations. We then develop a comprehensive crisis communications plan that helps you communicate clearly to employees, the media, families, the general public and other key stakeholders during a crisis. It also helps reduce the potential or impact of identified crises so the business can either maintain operations or recover quickly while under duress.

  • Now Where in History Did I Leave That? - Corporations often have one of the greatest jewels for marketing and PR locked away in closets, boxes and storage areas. These assets – videos, photos, slides, films – are of great historical value. Unfortunately, they're also rotting away literally. We work with businesses to identify these assets, stablilize and digitize the key materials, and use them for a range of promotional and marketing tactics, from anniversary celebrations and ads to traveling exhibitions.

  • It's Just Not Working! (Like it Used to) - A common problem of many medium sized organizations is that their communication programs have been built over time. This creates a layering of channels and methods that doesn't have the benefit of a global perspective. We work with businesses to assess these programs in terms of effectiveness, redundancy, ROI and appropriateness as a tool for different communications. The result is a top to bottom analysis and realignment that improves the value and reception of your key messages.

  • Ignore the Man Behind the Curtain - Gaining exposure via events that stakeholders are invited to is an under utilized way of gaining visibility, boosting morale and achieving buy-in and goodwill. We help businesses identify opportunities for creating these high exposure events and provide the planning services necessary to execute them effectively.

  • Rising Above the Din - There's a glut of advertising in the marketplace. We help medium-sized businesses rise above the din by developing innovative and effective marketing and communicating issues that help them stand out in the crowd and achieve tangible goals and objectives.

  • Are They Actually Listening? - We work with businesses to identify and strengthen internal communications. Assessments may include: working with management to identify roadblocks in disseminating messages; studying the informal communication loops that exist in any organization and finding methods for making it an asset to management (up to 80% of all communications are informal in an organization); cultivating key opinion leaders and gaining their buy-in on key initiatives; and neutralizing the impact corporate events (management changes, layoffs, unexpected growth, mergers, acquisitions, etc.) have on employees and their ability and desire to meet goals, achieve excellence and contribute effectively.

  • It's Still a Paper Society - Our award-winning design team can create anything in print, from brochures, pamphlets and sales sheets to posters, promotions and one-of-a-kind marketing tools. Technologists may want a paperless society, but most folks still want to hold the message in their hot little hands.

  • Putting Some Shine on the Time - Opening a new operations center, retail outlet or launching a product or service isn't as simple as throwing open the door and sending out a press release. The simple fact is there is a glut of these types of ordinary "events." We work with you to create a memorable launch/grand opening event that will not only create a buzz but jump start your sales efforts.

  • And Now For a Mouthful of Nothing - Some call it "strategic communication realignment." But what the heck is that? We work with management to ensure that the organization's culture and brand match the experience of its stakeholders, whether those stakeholders are employees, stockholders, the general public, contractors or vendors. Nothing could affect a business more fundamentally than saying and thinking you're one thing without understanding that you may be perceived as being something entirely different. This can create serious impediments to long term growth and prosperity.

  • Plug & Pray Techno-Communications - Businesses have been assailed with a plethora of new technologies that promise unparalleled efficiencies and savings. From now common Intranets, email clients, the web and content management systems to Wi-Fi, just-in-time knowledgebases and virtual networks, organizations must be able to assess the effectiveness of these tools. We work with clients to sort through the sales pitches of IT professionals and analyze the effectiveness of these technologies in terms of productivity, cost savings, ROI and resource allocation.

  • If This is Tuesday, it Must Be Chicago - The average business has just 10 seconds to gain and hold the attention of attendees. We work with business to create an effective and affordable tradeshow presence, from booth design and lead generation mechanisms to sales staff training and follow-up.

  • www.i-dunno-why-we-have-it.com - If you have an existing web site, we can assess it and realign it to fit your unique brand and value proposition. If you don't have one, we can design one for you that is affordable, effective and which adds value to your sales efforts and client relationships.
