Aye! Lads and lassies!

Welcome to Pacific Northwest Pirates, a WWW logbook of activities and appearances by the pirate crewes of Washington state. Here, you'll find everything you need to know about the Caribbean Pirates of the Northwest, the International Pirates, Seattle Chapter, and The Vampirates. This page is updated on the first of each month so you can adjust your course accordingly.

Upcoming Voyages. . .

Now that the New Year has finally arrived, The Vampirates plan to voyage out into the community again. Slated for February are appearances at both the Port Orchard Care Center and the Ridgemont Senior Citizens Apartments in Port Orchard, Washington. Call (360) 769-0624 for information.

Also in February, don't miss the appearances by the International Pirates, Seattle Chapter in Pioneer Square. Representing Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, the pirates roam from place to place during the annual Fat Tuesday celebration. Great rum specials and a chance to plunder the pirate's treasure chest. As we get specific dates and times, we'll post them here first.

Movie Review: Cutthroat Island

Critics may have given this Geena Davis, Matthew Modine flick a big thumbs down, but we liked it. Although we could have done without the overuse of pyrotechnics (what was in those cannonballs, plutonium?), Cutthroat Island was one of the more accurate portrayals of ship-to-ship battles, costuming and a pirate's life in general. Geena Davis was perfect as the unforgiving, unapologetic Captain Morgan. It's about time someone was happy with piracy as a career choice. We also thoroughly enjoyed final battle between Morgan and her uncle. We won't give anything away, suffice it to say, "Bad Dog!"

While this movie won't stay in the theaters long, it definitely gets two cutlasses up for the video library. Also, if you can snag the movie poster, do so. It's a sail emblazone with the skull and crossed sabers of Calico Jack Rackam.

It's about time a woman pirate was portrayed as a strong and cunning adversary to her traditional male counterparts! We've known all along who really wore the pants on the ship!

Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, naaaaaahhhhhh! We just acquired the "Cutthroat Island" "movie poster" which is actually the canvas replica of a battle-worn sail from Captain Morgan's ship!!

The best $12 you'll spend . . .

Being a pirate or wench, it's easy to think you're alone in the world. But fear not! There's lots of fellow adventurers throughout the U.S. and abroad. In fact, there's even a journal for rogues of the sea.

"No Quarter Given" is published six times a year and covers everything from upcoming events and festivals to costuming suggestions and valuable tips on how to develop a pirate personality. The newsletter costs only $12. Send checks made payable to Christine Lampe, c/o No Quarter Given, PO Box 7456, Riverside, CA 92513-7456. Or call (909) 785-1233. Other Pirate events on the horizon. . .

Feb. 2-4 is the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa. This is a Mardi Gras-type festival commemorating the city's invasion by pirate Jose Gaspar. A Shipwreck Ball, fireworks, pirate invasion and parade are all part of the festivities. Call (813) 272-1939 for more information.

Feb. 24 is the Pirate Feast in Adelphi, MI. This event, which recreates a buccaneer tavern in the year 1690, sells out fast. Tickets are $15. Call John Montrie at (301) 552-9115 before 9 p.m.
